Challenge
Based in Norway, with offices in the UK and Malaysia, Sharecat provides digital solutions to help clients in asset-intensive industries manage technical and engineering information.
As digitalisation within the energy, chemical and renewables sectors gathers pace, Sharecat see an opportunity to further expand into data science and analytics.
The industries Sharecat services are also undergoing what’s known as the Big Crew Change – ushering in a new generation of younger, more diverse staff with vastly different value drivers and expectations.
Working with Everyhow, Sharecat conceived a new Self-truth® – ‘Data Catalyst’ and required a new brand identity to bring the idea to life and signal to the market the business’ digital evolution.
Solution
The visual identity is driven by a series of 3D rendered shapes which we collaborated with 3D2D to create. These act as a metaphor for how Sharecat transforms data from ‘disorganised’ to ‘ordered’ and ultimately ‘optimised’ states.
Referencing the industries in which Sharecat works, the logo and icons have a geometric, engineered appearance.
We created a brand system of guidelines, tools and templates through a cloud-based delivery system and used a combination of custom and open source fonts to ensure all staff had access without licensing issues.
While the UI development is a separate project, we future-proofed the colour palette by anchoring it in Google’s Material Design system.
Digital evolution
The new Sharecat website is the most visible manifestation of the brand evolution and signals to the market a shift into data science and analytics. With a large variation in technical proficiency of users, we employed nested content to engage beginners at a glance, while allowing experts to deep dive into highly technical content – discoverable via use case, technical challenge, lifecycle stage or industry. Rich, interactive and animated diagrams encourage exploration.
Wanting a clear visual editor and increased speed to market, Sharecat selected Webflow as the desired platform. Sharecat created all content in parallel with the design process meaning the first version of the site was launched within a 6 week timeframe. Thanks to Bien Studio for the Webflow expertise.
Results
The brand and website have now launched and are having an impact throughout the business. Sharecat recently won a global tender process for one of the world’s largest chemical corporations.
Sharecat has embraced design as a competitive advantage which is evident across all touchpoints. Self-titled is currently overseeing User Interface design for the next iteration of the Sharecat platform. This work is currently in development and will be published once launched.
Our work on this project was a finalist in two divisions of the AGDA awards.
